Rings(kanchi),

Can you share with me the venue that you have chosen for your wedding banquet? I am also planning to look for similar capacity, with great ambience and good food.

Thanks

Hi Lysha, I'm responding to your sms. You asked besides Hai Tien Lou, any other recommendations, You said you need good food and ambience, with hotel stay. Actually, I take back my recommdentation of Hai Tien Lou. My mom celebrated her birthday this year there. 60 people. The food was awful and service was not there. Eventually, the hotel compensated us as a show of apology for our bad experience. Please do not go there unless you are certain the food and service is up to your standards. The hotel promised to improve but I've not returned there since so cannot comment.

As for other recommendations, if you are looking at more than 30 pax, i do'nt have any other recommendations. Cos you would either have to book the whole restaurant or have adjoining private rooms with partitions removed for privacy. As for ambience, nothing beats hotels.

My recommendation if you have 80 pax, is Fullerton's Straits Room, as TY suggested. I had my engagement dinner there. It was wonderful.

Hi Cactus 79,

Thanks for your feedback. When you had your engagement dinner there, did you opt for chinese food? was the serving small? I am very concerned abt the food portion as i really don't want my guests to go hungry considering I choose such an expensive venue.

Thanks

Hi Lysha,
yes, we opted for chinese food. It's a wedding package at that time. I think it was the $938 or $968+++/table menu.I can't recall the price off hand now.
The portions were not small. It was surprisingly good. We had alot of positive feedback from the guests. The service was fantastic. My friends told me their wines got topped up without even them realising that a waiter had come by their side. Even napkins were folded properly each time a guest left his seat to walk about. There were no need for request of drinks or wines because every guest was offered and the amount was automatically topped up.

Hi Gals,

I am holding a separate dinner for relatives. It'll be around 5- 6 tables.
I was thinking of:

My humble House
Grand Shanghai
Peony Jade

Any suggestions/ feedback?
Thank you!

Hi Midori,

You can try Oriental Hotel. I booked mine at Garden Suite, intend to hold abt 8 tables.

Is your dinner during weekend or weekday? If it's a weekday ( Mon-Fri), you will have more choices. From my survey, restaurant charges are not necessarily cheaper.

Restaurant:
1) Jade@ Fullerton ( under Tung Lok)-ard same price as My Humble House
2) Li Bai @ Sheraton -price ard $1K per table ( their min/max are 8 tables)

Hotel:
1) Shangri-la ( try Water Terrace or Pavillion)
2) Four Seasons ( 20th floor-East & West Room)-max 6 tables for chinese sit down
3) Fullerton-Straits Room ( as discussed above)

Hope this helps

Hi Lysha,

thanks so much for ur opinions :-)

I was wondering.. shd i hold it in

1) restaurants?
2) restaurants in hotels?
3) small function rm in hotels?

I think since it's more for formality sake for my relatives, chinese food is quite impt...

Wow.. Li Bai quite ex...

I think Shangri-la is good for lunch as the Water Terrace has quite a good view...

For four seasons, is it 3 tables for East and 3 tables for west?

Thanks!

Hi Midori,

It's really up to you on the 3 choices, depends on what you want. For me, food is quite important, so eventhough Raffles Hotel has room that caters to 8 tables, I didn't choose them coz I had unpleasant experience dining at one of my friend's wedding 3 years ago,the food was quite a let down. Perhaps, they have improved by now.

Is ambience important to you? then, I think hotel will be nicer. One thing abt small function room in hotel is that some hotels convert boardroom for your use, which I didn't like coz the ceiling can be quite low and it doesn't feel like I am holding a wedding banquet. I have asked Intercontinental Hotel and they suggested Malacca Room for me. I didn't like it because it's just a boardroom.

Some restaurant can be quite nice..like My Humble House. Li Bai is ex. But you can ask them to customise the menu according to your budget, they have some menu for corporate dining, priced ard 800++ to 900++ ( but you don't get the typical 9 course food)

Hi Midori,

For four seasons, it is 3 tables for East and 3 tables for West. You can't combine East and West.

If you like Four Seasons, you can consider their Cresent Ballroom which can hold between 12 to 18 if you are to get at least 12 tables.

If you are certain you want only 8 tables, then you may want to consider Fullerton's Straits Room or Raffles Hotel's Casuarina Suite. Both places have minimum 8 tables.

The food at Fullerton may change in 2008 though cos presently chinese food is supplied by Jade but Jade will be bought over by Fullerton (now owned by Tung Luk) so not sure if the chefs will move with the buying over.

Raffles Hotel's food is supplied by Royal China. It's good. I'm not sure about service though. Will know by early Sept.

Hi,

You may want to try Seletar Country Club for your ROM or AD, provided you are staying ard North/East area. I just confirmed my ROM (30pax) & AD (min 15 tbls) on Nov 8. But you can ask them to customised a package for you & the packages is really worth it. Most of all, i arrange my solemnisation ceremony to be overseeing the golf course... very nice view for my big day.

Hi Cactus

Since you ever had your engagement party in Fullerton Hotel (Straits Rm)... do they have the Foyer like 4seasons ? Would u think for simple wedding function (8 -12 tables)..would u personally choose in Crescent Ballroom of 4seasons (12 tables) or Straits of Fullerton (8 or 9 tables). I am really confuse actually and my opinion is tend to simple, not crowded and impressive function. thanks

Hi Lysha

As u said that u have booked 8 tables in Oriental Hotel..wondering u already contacted Straits... what makes u choose Oriental then?
thanks alot

hi fannytjioe, their cocktail reception is a floor above, at the Roof Garden. It's not like at 4 seasons.

Peronsally, I would choose Straits Room. Cos I dun like the carpet colour of Crescent Ballroom. It looked very washed out (back in end 2005/early 2006). Also Fullerton is a much nicer building than 4 seasons.

Personally, I would consider seriously Raffles Hotel's Casuarina Suite or Fullerton's Straits Room. Casuarina Suite gives a similar feel to Straits Room but not as grand cos ceiling is lower and flat out, not arched. The colour set up is also very limited at Raffles Hotel. My parents had their wedding anniversary celebrations at Raffles Hotel 2 months ago. It was very good. If you do choose Raffles hotel, let me know. There's a very capable coordinator you could request for.

Hi cactus

thanks so much for your reply. i will more consider Straits Room too...coz 8 or 9 tables are more affordable then 12 tables min (4seasons)...beside we could not expect the angpao will cover the cost too...

Is ceiling of Straits room high enough like a ball room?

thanks so much...i have email Fullerton to send me the cataloque and price of 2008.... i will certainly visit that hotel during my visit in spore.

Yes, Straits room's ceiling is high enough. You cannot expect it to be as high as a ballroom cos it is a small room but it is definately not low ceiling and it is much higher than a normal function room. in fact, it is "arched".

During your visit to Singapre, you may want to consider Raffles hotel. It is a very close second to Straits Room. It has a lot of history also. Raffles and Fullerton is about the same price. Fullerton's suite is a loft suite.. 2 stories. Raffles' suite is very very pretty. Very nice too. The package for raffles is a 2 nights stay. I believe it is still 1 night stay at Fullerton. the rack price for Fullerton's loft is lower than raffles' suite. Further, all of Raffles' hotel rooms are suites, unlike Fullerton's. :-)Raffles is 120 years old this year.

em... what u said is really make sense... I will list down 3 hotels..ie Fullerton, 4seasons and Raffles...for me to visit later next year. I realise Fullerton is very very pricy... sgd1300 for weekend...but from the list of the food...i could tell the menu is very very good.

Thanks alot again.... u realy realy very helpful :0

I will contact again should i got any questions...hope u don't mind. he..he..

cheers

No worries, fanny. I'd be happy to help.

Some pple have bad things to say about Fullerton's food. I suspect these are people who had their weddings at the ballrooms cos so far people I know having had their functions at straits room said the food is fantastic and portions were large. That's one thign you'd want to note.

Another thing, the chiense restaurant at Fullerton has changed. it's still known by the same name but I believe the chef has changed.

Royal China at Raffles Hotel serves very good food too and it is a good restaurant in itself.

http://www.wildrocket.com.sg/wildrocket.htm

Here is the URL. Personally i think the pictures doesnt do any justice to the place itself. You might want to bring your hubby along for dinner or something to check out the place and food first. It's quite pretty at night.

Hi there,

I am looking for a similar ambience for my ROM & AD like Glass Bar at Mt Faber. However they can only host up to 5 tables max which i am looking at around 8-10 tables.

Any recommendation?
