Show and Tell - featuring Haier Living
by Ming Lee, 1 June 2005
Why should happy ever after take place in a boring-looking apartment? That's what the team at interior design company Haier Living thought too.
From June 11 to July 3 2005, come experience firsthand the interior design capabilities of Haier Living. A culmination of ideas from its nine designers, the Haierictic is a lived-in show apartment that beckons with its distinctive uber-cool vibe.
Creating the feeling of spaciousness for the five-room standard flat's 110 square metre floor area meant the design had to marry form and functionality. For starters, a unifying palette comprising softer shades like white, beige and grey kept individual spaces separate yet integrated. Old walls were replaced with partitions that doubled up as storage space, while mirrors stand at strategic spots to add generous doses of light and create the illusion of space.
All this could turn some homes into another aloof service apartment or hotel room. Save for deliberate cosy touches by Haier Living, which gave this show apartment its unique visually arresting appearance. As a contrast to the state-of-the-art gadgets and appliances are interesting accents, which pack the home.
Check out the whimsical interplay between homogenous flooring and luxurious faux fur rugs, all-white kitchen cabinets finish and leopard skin granite tiles, or the plush day bed and structural lines of an oversized lamp.
The Haierictic is but only the most recent achievement for Haier Living, which handles more than 100 residential and commercial interior projects every year. Besides interior design and build, it also offers interior styling (both soft and hard furnishings), which project director Ivan Teo says homeowners are increasingly demanding.
"Styling is important because it completes the look of the home," he says. "It's like a beautiful bride searching for a suitable wedding gown to bring out her personality and body shape."
Having to multi-task as interior stylists comes second nature to staff at Haier Living. This is especially when the company, which was established in 2002, has an in-house carpentry team to churn out furniture to meet the individual needs of homeowners. They also offer custom-made curtains such as pretty roman shades and sturdy roller blinds and bed linen in various fabrics for clients who require such services.
And for those who are tired of gimmicks and empty promises, Haier Living's personalized service means, instead of dealing with pesky salespeople, homeowners are tended to by the designer himself or herself throughout. This allows for easy communication between the two parties and ensures the homeowners' needs are met.
The Haier Living show apartment is at Blk 172A Edgedale Place, #14-402. It is open on weekends, June 11 to July 3 of 2005, 10am to 6pm.
