Expect Some Unexpected Guests at Your Wedding
Sure, it would be great to have your wedding party in a six-star hotel ballroom with all that red carpet and dry ice niceties. But if you're after a touch of the unique or even wild, bring your big-day bash into the sunny outdoors at the Singapore Zoo and Jurong BirdPark.
In fact, reveals Mr. Chang Boon Heng, Catering Sales Manager at Wildlife Reserves Singapore, which runs both tourist attractions, enquiries for matrimonial events have been pouring in since 2003. These days, he receives up to 20 phone calls of such nature daily.
"As outdoor weddings become more popular in recent years, couples are more open to the idea," he explains. "Unlike other outdoor venues which offers a resort-like atmosphere, the Zoo and BirdPark makes you feel as if you're in the heart of a natural surrounding. It is a good choice if you love animals and greenery."
At the Zoo, the Enchanting Eden wedding banquet starts from S$699 for a table of 10. Couples can choose to hold the eight-course dinner at the Forest Lodge or Pavilion by The Lake. The package also offers two different themes; a walk-on-the-wild side safari with a magnificent Maharaja-style elephant entrance for the newlyweds, or a romantic Victorian look with a pretty horse carriage arrival.
"According to the selected theme, the dcor changes," says Mr. Chang. "For instance, the safari comes with zebra, leopard or tiger print seat covers, while the Victorian has white as its dominant colour. Couples can also expect exotic flower stands and centerpieces on every table."
"For those who are interested in outdoor solemnisation, check out our 'hearts-a-flutter' solemnisation package!" he enthuses. "Imagine saying your vows in the wild and having butterflies released as you exchange your first 'married' kiss. Then take a breather at the Forest Lodge for a delectable high tea."
Over at the BirdPark, the Wings Of Desire wedding banquet also begins from S$699 for a table of 10. Before you adjoin for dinner at the Lodge, well wishers will get to witness the release of Mandarin Ducks by the Flamingo Lake. The Lakeview Room, where the eight-course banquet is served, overlooks the flamingo-filled waters, thanks to its floor-to-ceiling windows. This stunning scene, says Mr. Chang, is what makes the BirdPark popular with couples.
For those who want to keep their nuptial celebrations to a daytime affair, the BirdPark also offers a Love's In The Air solemnization package, where you get to release a pair of lovebirds in the Waterfall Aviary. Followed by an inviting high tea at the Observation Pavilion.
It is this al fresco, romantic ambience that makes an outdoor wedding at the Zoo or BirdPark appealing, says Mr. Chang. "After all, getting married is a one-in-a-lifetime event, so it'll be good to make yours different from others. Here in the open, you can also smell the nature and fresh air, leaving one with a unique and unforgettable experience."
For those guests who are equally adventurous at hearts, Mr. Chang recommends mix-match smart casual and semi-formal outfits to suit the jungle ambience.
And as support to the Zoo and BirdPark global conservation thrust, shark's fin or abalone are specifically not included in the menu.
Beautiful landscapes and exotic companions. There's nothing more enchanting than that.
