Phi Phi Island

We love beaches. Most of our holidays will somehow include the sun, the sand and the sea. In February, we left everything behind and headed for Phi Phi Island.

The island is situated East of Phuket and it was voted as one of the world's best beaches and a popular holiday destination. So popular that we were afraid that it had become too commercialized. Fortunately, our fears proved unfounded. We flew from Singapore to Phuket before we took a three-hour boat ride to Phi Phi Island. The scenery was breath taking. Crystal clear waters, calm sea and friendly people. Well, most of them anyway. Plenty of fresh air, lots of cheap food and no cars! It was a paradise!

Our resortThe resort we stayed in was nothing to crow about, but it has everything you need. It overlooked the sea and we could hear the waves rumbling against the endless beach. It was music to our ears. Once we settled in, we wondered what to do next.

We heard of the fabulous dive locations and amazing chains of islets and rock formations, we decided to check out both. After some discussion, both of us agreed to go diving first.

It wasn't much of an experienced except for the wreck dive because it was our first real wreck dive. Although the visibility of the water was reasonable, it was not as clear as we had hoped. Anyway, the sea was rich with marine life. There were beautiful corals, many fishes and sharks! We were 2 feet away from a sleeping nurse shark! We also went in between rock formations. It was very interesting. We heard from our French dive master that the water can be clearer, I guessed it was just our luck!
