hihi. I am a plus size bride and my package with JHC is disappointing. I have just completed my AD and I am terribly unhappy with the service, photography and the gowns from them. No doubt the package is cheap, but I realize some things must not be saved as BS is what make or break the mood.

Sad. Though my wedding is over, but I just can't believe things went so haywire.

Shirley: I took the AD package on Oct 30 with Jess as my ps was done with a Taiwan BS. i can only send u ad pics after my pg passes them to me...

Pamela: Care to share wat happened? I thought that there were some things Jess was not too professional about but overall still quite satisfied with their services.

Hi Queenie. To be fair in my reasonings. The plus points for JHC is that Jess is not the pushy type that focus on making the couple spend more $. Their packages are attractive and those extra add-ons are reasonably priced. Although she seldom smile and is daunting to talk to her, she get things done and on-time.

The cons. I am more to the bigger bone type, in the size of L and XL. During gown selection, I don’t have much choices to look at cos’ she told me those on the racks will not fit me and those that I tried to wear but can’t fit cannot be altered to fit me. Nvm, I lowered my expectation and accept what I can wear. I managed to find an evening gown and white gown which I liked a lot. So – limited selection for big size like me.

Twice gown fittings, I told her to alter cos’ it’s too tight for me. Clearly it wasn’t done cos’ the favorite evening gown’s zip burst during my photoshoot (she sew the zipper on the spot while I wore it), hence no back photos of me in that. The white gown for the outdoor shoot wasn’t altered as well and the strings squeezed out the flaps of flesh (very ugly) and so she gave a more opaque veil to hide the back and those photos taken were heavily photoshoped.

Men’s selection is also limited. My hub’s pants wasn’t altered and the photos could clearly see his pant extra loose length on the ankle area. His selection of evening coat is a black one. For photoshoot, we are ok. But when we told her we wanted to change to another for the dinner event as it looks the same as the hotel F&B manager, it was purely ‘no’ cos’ she said the attire already altered (it wasn’t cos’ hub fits nicely on the attire, never request to alter that before). End up on the AD, hub wear the white one the whole day up to our dinner event.

We got a prc photographer for our photoshoot. There were no other assistants, only the three of us. So while we focus on our poses and smiles, there is no one to look on the attire. Hence, there are shots that my gown exposed my chest and hub’s coat collar not properly aligned. While we did not select those with my chest exposed, cursed us that we chosen the one with my hub’s collar jagging up and even selected that photo as our 8R table top cos’ we liked our smiles so much we failed to look at the attire. =C The photographer’s skill wasn’t that good and photos looked like casual snapping for the sake of taking, some over-exposed.

The angry part came when I was supposed to select my tea dress for AD. She told me to come back in the last 2 weeks before AD to select so that she can have a better alteration to suit my body for the AD. We went for the appt but horror cos’ she let me try a few and those that I liked couldn’t fit and she said cannot alter. She gave me those simple ones or those unflattering ones to my body type and even said it looked nice while hubby said I looked like a clown. =( With no alternatives, she gave me two white gowns instead. I have to accept cos’ no time already. I also tried on all the gowns and horror that my fav. evening gown couldn’t zip up at all. The difference was almost like 4inches and she said I put on weight. It looks so clearly that the gown was being used for another person who is of smaller built and hence the difference in size.

Then came the selection of accessories. She also had limited collections and she cannot give a matching head-gear and jewelries for the evening gown. I then realized on the day of the photoshoot, those accessories were borrowed from the make-up artist. I got no choice and so I opt for a tiara which is easier to match and I went to hunt for the jewelries.

I was at the angriest when I collect the gowns. The fav. evening gown had so much defects. Some of the jewels had dropped off from the gown and some loosely hanging there near to dropping off. Best is, there is even a needle there at one of the defects area. I MMS her the picture of the needle and called her, she coolly said her gown is designed with some less the jewels. Lucky I collected the gown 2 days before AD and the day before, I rushed back to her in the evening and insisted she fix it up. With my face showing displeasure, she amended it. Though she said the gowns are cleaned before passing to me, one of the white gowns had pen marking on it. Since it is not visible to see from far and we got not much time left, I forgo and wear it.

I don’t think I am those very demanding and difficult customer and we never raise voices to her or argue badly. But it is really sad for all the above to happen to me. My AD church wedding photography was also done by her arranged photographer. Though this time it was a different person, I haven’t seen any preview of it and I really am not hoping for the best now. If this AD photography is also screwed-up, then I can say my memories of my wedding are completely screwed-up too.

Oh dear, Pam! that's really bad!

We din take her PG so cannot comment on that.. but the gowns really limited on her side and especially for the bigger sized... I'm on the XL side too~~~

I last minute wanted a ROM dress for my AD and there were not much choices for me too! I had managed to pick a piece for myself but not too happy that she kept saying i cannot fit into the gowns when i tried to shortlist them.....

We went for 3 fittings altogether but only the 2nd fitting, which is 3 weeks before wedding.....

Hopefully your AD photos will turn up good~~

The most frequent word she used on me is 'cannot'. Cannot this cannot that. I really find it quite absurb that there are so many racks of gowns in store and most cannot suit me? If really so limited, then I think plus-size BTBs can forget about this shop.

Yah, let's see how it turns out for the AD photos.

A tip I can share to all BTBs, do the gown fittings earlier cos' you won't have time to rectify if it is near the AD. It will become very stressful and rush at the last hour.

Hi pinkydollie. I must advise that if you feel uncomfortable with the gown, say it out. In the beginning, mine was already tight and she said no problem cos' I will lose weight as time to come. Thus what happened at the PS. On AD, if the gown doesn't fit, limited survival solution and you will be very worried. So best to get it well figured out days before.

My sweetheart tube gown is actually loose on the chest side (once again I believed in her when she said: "Tube top must be abit loose so flesh won't pop up, you have to tape up ur boobs so now you will feel it is loose") Ended up on the AD I used alot of tapes inside to hold it up.

Wow, u are making me worried. JHC is the 1st BS i gone to n i sign wif them after i try on 2 gowns at the shop. I am a size 18, so i was so glad that i can fitted the OTR gowns. Also i love the evening gown (which was the main push factor tat make me sign).
I going to have my PS n AD wif them nxt yr...Hope things will turn out well....

Hi Shirley. For me, when I first started, I don't really have a design of gowns in mind, so anything that I feel I look ok in, I can accept. Although my good friend commented that JHC gowns are quite plainly design but there are a couple of gowns I looked good in. Also, I really love her evening gown and it really upsets me when she brushed all the defects aside. Remember to do defects checking on the spot during collection.

Some tips on PS & AD, if there is no assistant to look for you. Do watch out for things like postures, attire and accidental exposure for yourself and your partner. Also, since we are in the era of digital cameras, request the photographer to take more photos when you see scenes that you both like. Believe me, the photographer will be more tired than the couple and he may get weary and loses some shots.

Also, I realised one thing that I did not do, for outdoor shoots, go to the photographer and ask him to let you preview the photo he just taken on the spot, so you will know if the photo is over/under exposed then can re-do.

My AD photos are out. Same issue of some outdoor shots over-exposed. Oh well, I give up. At least it is not too bad and I can do some minor adjustment. I now see the difference of a BS engaged photographer vs a a purely independent photographer specialized in wedding photography. The results truely show.

Hi Anne, I collected my album on Aug 2010,so far the album is no problem. I also check with my friend who also took their wedding photo with Jess on 2008 was no problem with the album also. Why don't you bring back the album to show them and find out what you can do. I am sure she will help you.....

My assigned MUA is Amy. Not bad, very friendly and she did a very nice job for my hairstyles for both my PS and AD. She is always on time for both the PS and on AD, she is actually early. Just that the charging of ampoule and eyelashes really burn my pocket...
